3 Reasons Why You Should Meditate

3 mn read

Mediating changed my life. I’ve been meditating for over 6 years now and I will say it is the main reason for my success. Meditating is one of those things that’s easily overlooked and some people think it’s weird or even a hoax. For me, it’s done more to improve my mental health than I thought. In this article, I’ll share some of my experiences and 3 reasons why you should meditate. Before I begin, I must state that I am not a doctor or a physician. What you will read in this article are the personal observations that I made after years of meditating. I recommend doing additional research on your own regarding meditation and how it may affect you.

Stress and Anxiety Relief

One of the first things that I noticed when I started meditating was the relief from stress and anxiety. When I was a kid I used to stress out and get super anxious about a lot of things. This affected how I dealt with certain personal issues and my work. I knew that I had to fix this issue if I ever wanted to be successful. So, I turned to meditating. Meditation helped me become more mindful of my current situation. It helped me become aware of my present self.

When you become aware of the present moment, you gain access to resources you may not have realized were with you all along. Which is a stillness at your core. When I meditated every day I was able to fix the small stressors that were coming up and go about my day. It helped me navigate my life with a lot more certainty.

Stress Prevention

As I mentioned in the previous section, meditating every day allows you to deal with the daily minor stressors as they come up. That’s important because the more those little stressors stack up the bigger and more serious your anxiety will get. During meditation you focus your attention, which allows you to eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. In this way, meditation allows you to enhance your physical and emotional well-being.

3 Reasons Why you Need to Meditate

Promotes Emotional Health

Being emotionally strong and healthy is very important to your overall well-being. As a kid, I was very emotionally unbalanced and I would have numerous mood swings. Meditating helped me hone in on my emotional state and control how I reacted to things. It allowed me to only focus on the things I could control and let everything else go. The feeling that you have to be able to control every part of your life can get super stressful. This stress can cause you to be short-tempered and can result in those mood swings. Meditating will allow you to focus on what’s really important.

With mental health being a big issue among millennials and Gen Zers, especially after the last couple of years coping with the affects of a global pandemic. This is an important topic. I believe that meditation is key for the individuals in these two categories. Because how you handle your emotions will determine you mental health.

Takeaway

These are just my 3 reasons why you should meditate, this is not an exhaustive list so I encourage you to keep learning. Hope this article gets you to try meditating and insert it into your daily routine. It worked wonders for me when I started this back in 2017 and I’ve recommended it to all my friends. As I mentioned earlier, do more research and understand meditation more. There are plenty of apps out there that will help you get started. My advice is to just pick one and start doing it!

There are plenty of resources for you to start. My favorite book on meditation was by Marcus Aurelius. I would read that whenever you can, it is a really good book. I would also look at many of the apps on both the google and apple app store. Headspace is what I use but honestly, any of the apps will do just fine. Just pick one and start meditating.
